It also offers ability to pinpoint leaks and theft of services, numerical analysis, reporting functions and also offers advanced water conservation.
  • As cost is concerned the smart meters are roughly two times expensive than a traditional mechanical meters. But bridging cost differential it offers long-term benefits to outweigh the operational expenses and implementation cost.
  • The most important part in long-life meter design is its battery, which needs to be operated till the life of a meter reliably. New Ultrasonic meters which doesn't have any moving parts which can last indefinitely but its life is only limited by the life of its battery.
  • Mostly all leading Meter transmitter units(MTUs) are powered by lithium thionyl chloride(Li-SOCl2) bobbin cells which offers higher energy density, highest capacity, very wide temperature range and unrivaled battery life.
  • Standard LiSOCl2 Bobbin type batteries cannot deliver the high pulses which is required to power AMI Two way wireless communication. This challenge can be overcome by using Lithium Ion Capacitors(LIC) in parallel with Li-SOCl2 Bobbin batteries. LiSOCl2 Bobbin batteries delivers low continues background current while LIC can offer periodic high pulses at the time of data transmission.
